There is an old saying that goes "don't live in the past." This may work for others, but not for us, Native people, as the past is our future. Not psychologically speaking, but culturally and operationally. Tradition is our foundation, it is the essence of who we are. From the very beginning, our tradition has been rooted in us, indigenous peoples. To us, tradition had a spiritual connection. Therefore, it was vital to pass down these teachings from generation to generation, as there was a system of values in place. It was these values that people lived by. This helped maintain order in society. The values were respected and understood by all. If you observe in all archaeological findings, no prisons or detention facilities have been unearthed or discovered. There was no such need, as everyone followed the tradition. Nowadays, there seems to be a lack of values embedded in tradition - a society without values is a society without connection, leading to a lost people. Therefore, more and more people are seeking this understanding.
